Over the years the shop front has been used for different projects. It's early day's it was a Black Awareness type shop selling African goods, wall plaques and PCRL memorabilia such as pens rulers and badges. Later it was used as a flower shop, due to the close proximity to Dudley Road Hospital. It was also used sometimes a radio studio upstairs when the station had no were else to go, usually just after a Government raid in one of the high rise flats around the city. People would be kind enough to let us use their flats while they were away in Jamaica or similar circumstances. Occasionally they would use a DJ's home and it's not been unknown for us to be housed in a vacant council flat.
Linford Christie visits Cecil's Food Shop |
Cecil's office upstairs. Once the HQ for Rising Star Talent Agency in the late 1970's. It had been raided by the DTI many times over the years. An 8 foot square birthday card sent and signed by the local community on PCRL's birthday is proudly hanging on the wall behind him..
1992 fundraisers outside our record shop an PCRL's head quarters.
